Steward Station

The Trail Steward Station provides hikers a resting point before the challenging ascent to the peak of Breakneck Ridge. Located along the Hudson Highland Fjord Trial, a linear park that will eventually run between Beacon and Cold Spring, Breakneck Ridge attracts local, regional, and national visitors. In the past novice hikers periodically underestimated the level of difficulty of the existing foot trail. This structure offers a location for park stewards to guide and advise spectators while storing safety and wayfinding supplies. Nestled near a rock outcropping and a natural widening of the trail, the Station affords a pause for walkers and is a human-scaled place from which to take in the immense Hudson River. The green roof provides sun and rain protection for stewards and visitors and the minimal but strategically located walls offer relief from strong winds.
